The Bartlett Promise Master's Scholarship

You get your full UK-rate tuition fees paid plus a yearly living grant of about EUR 20,000 (£17,096). The grant runs for the whole length of your master's, either one or two years depending on the course. For the two-year MArch Architecture (ARB/RIBA Part 2), the yearly grant is about EUR 18,500 (£15,864). You also get mentoring (regular one-to-one guidance from an experienced person), personal support and careers advice throughout your studies. The award comes from the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment at University College London (UCL), which gives up to ten of these scholarships each year.

Who can apply

You must meet all of these:

• Where you live: You are based in the UK with home fee status, or you are a forced migrant in the UK.
• Place of study: You have a UCL offer for a Bartlett master's course starting in September 2027. This covers all subjects at the faculty's nine schools, such as architecture, urban planning and engineering.
• Study phase: You have not yet finished a master's degree or a PhD anywhere. This includes integrated or "undergraduate" master's degrees.
• Grades: Your results are not scored. You just need the UCL offer.

You must also fit at least one of these situations:

• Your household income is under about EUR 50,000 (£42,875).
• You are from a Black, Asian or ethnic minority background, or a Gypsy, Roma or Traveller community.
• You have a disability.
• You have care experience (you were looked after by a local authority) or you care for someone.
• You are the first in your family to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

How to apply

First apply for a Bartlett master's course. Course applications open in October 2026. Apply early, because decisions can take up to four months. Once you have your offer, apply for the scholarship between 1 March and 1 June 2027, and send your offer to the Bartlett Promise team by 1 June 2027. The application asks about your educational, personal and financial circumstances.

How realistic are your chances?

With up to ten scholarships a year and no grades to compete on, this comes down to whether you clearly meet the criteria, not how strong an application you write. It is limited to UK-based students at one faculty who fit specific background criteria, so the eligible group is narrow. A well-matched applicant has solid prospects. Apply for your course early, as places and offers take time to come through.
