Bourses de recherche SPILF et CMIT

What you get

This programme funds research in infectious diseases through two separate grants under one annual call. The "Junior" SPILF grant pays 10,000 EUR, and three are awarded each year. The "Jeune chercheur" (Young Researcher) CMIT grant pays 20,000 EUR, with the number decided each year (2 of 4 applicants in 2025). Both support a clinical or experimental research project in infectious diseases. The awards come from two French medical societies working together: the SPILF (French-Language Infectious Disease Society) and the CMIT (college of university teachers in infectious and tropical diseases). Winners receive their grant at the annual national infectious-disease conference (Journées Nationales d'Infectiologie, JNI).

Who can apply

• Field: Your project is clinical or experimental research in infectious diseases.
• For the SPILF Junior grant: You do not hold a permanent hospital staff post. Two of the three grants go to junior doctors (interns or CCA) enrolled in the infectious and tropical diseases specialisation (DESC or DES).
• For the CMIT Young Researcher grant: You are an intern or clinical doctor, and your project is a university thesis or a research stay abroad that fits an academic hospital career (CNU sub-section 45.03).
• Membership: You are a paid-up member of the SPILF.
• No recent SPILF grant: If you won the SPILF Junior grant in the last three years, you cannot apply for the CMIT Young Researcher grant.

How to apply

You send one PDF file (20 pages maximum) by email to the three named contacts at the RENARCI research group. A single jury from both societies decides all grants, and everyone hears back by email by early June. Applications for 2026 are closed, and the 2027 dates are not yet announced.

How realistic are your chances?

The applicant pool is small: you must be a doctor or trainee in infectious diseases, a paid-up SPILF member, and have a concrete research project. In 2025, 3 of 10 applicants won an SPILF grant and 2 of 4 won the CMIT grant. Competition is real but modest, so a well-designed project that clearly fits your career stage has solid prospects.
