What the family scholarship covers

This Danish family trust fund helps you to finance your studies, training or travel, preferably a study trip or further training abroad. It can also cover a convalescent stay following an illness. It can help family members who have been separated by a move abroad to visit one another. The amount and duration of the grant are not disclosed. The foundation assesses each case individually to tailor it to your circumstances. The funds come from the ‘Læge Johs. Brandt-Jørgensen’s Family Legacy’, a private foundation established in the year 1970.

Who can apply

• Family link: You must be a descendant of the founder’s grandparents. The founder was the doctor Johs. Brandt-Jørgensen, and the fund is intended exclusively for his relatives, not for the general public.
• Your situation: You are facing genuine financial hardship or need support for your studies, your training, your recovery or in the event of illness.
• Field of study: Any topic. The fund is not restricted to a specific subject area.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they are members of the founder’s family.
• Proof of relationship: If you are applying for the first time, you must provide a certified copy of your baptism certificate, as well as documents showing your relationship to the founder’s grandparents.

How to apply

You should apply as an individual directly to the foundation, which is now run by the Faber-Rod family in Allerød, Denmark. There is no standard online form; please therefore contact the administrator to obtain one. The deadline for applications is 15.03.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is extremely restricted: only blood relatives of a specific Danish family are eligible to apply. As almost no one qualifies, competition is negligible. If you can prove your descent from the founder’s grandparents and demonstrate a genuine need, your chances are good. For anyone who does not belong to this family, this fund is out of the question.
