ČEZ scholarship

During a five-year university degree programme, you will receive a monthly grant of up to 19,200 EUR in total (up to 480,000 CZK). This is paid throughout the year, including during the holidays. The exact amount depends on your year of study and your grades. If you are a school pupil in the last two years before your A-levels, you can receive up to approximately 3,400 EUR (up to 85,000 CZK) instead. The scholarship also gives you the opportunity to take up a position at ČEZ after completing your studies, for example at the Dukovany or Temelín nuclear power stations. The funding comes from ČEZ, one of the largest energy companies in the Czech Republic, which uses the programme to attract future engineers and physicists to its nuclear power stations.

Who can apply

• Level: You are studying at a university of technology or a university of natural sciences, or you are in the final two years of a technical secondary school or a grammar school and are planning to go on to study a technical degree.
• Field of study: You are studying an engineering or science subject such as electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear physics or chemistry.
• Interest in nuclear energy: You would like to work in the nuclear energy sector in the future. The scholarship is conditional upon you joining ČEZ after completing your studies.
• Grades: You’ve achieved good results. The better your marks are, the higher your scholarship will be.
• Aptitude: You must pass psychological tests and personal interviews. For some roles, such as that of a reactor operator, medical fitness is also required.
• Where you study: You are studying at one of the participating Czech or Slovak technical universities.

How to apply

Firstly, you will take part in one of ČEZ’s recruitment events. School pupils take part in a three-day work experience programme (“Jaderná maturita”), whilst university students take part in a two-week summer school or a one-week SMR camp. As part of these events, you will undertake psychological tests and attend interviews. ČEZ then offers the best candidates scholarship contracts, which are usually signed at the start of the school year in the autumn.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a narrowly defined, career-focused award. Applicants must be studying a specific technical subject and be prepared to work in the nuclear energy sector afterwards, so the pool of applicants is small and self-selecting. The number of scholarships is rising (55 in 2023/24, a record high of 67 in 2024/25), and ČEZ plans to recruit thousands of staff in the nuclear energy sector. A suitable candidate who performs well in the tests and interviews therefore has excellent prospects.
