About this scholarship
What you get
You get a full scholarship to study Chinese and Chinese-teaching subjects at a university in China. China's Center for Language Education and Cooperation funds it. The scholarship covers your tuition, cultural activities and Chinese exams. You also get a free shared dorm room and full health insurance. On top of that you get a monthly living allowance that varies by programme level:
- About EUR 300/month (2,500 yuan) for Bachelor and 1-year or 1-semester improvement scholars.
- About EUR 360/month (3,000 yuan) for the Master.
- About EUR 420/month (3,500 yuan) for the Doctorate.
The 4-week short courses do not include a monthly allowance.
You can choose from several tracks, all starting in 2026: a 4-year Doctorate in International Chinese Teaching, a 2-year Master, a 4-year Bachelor in Chinese Philology, and shorter improvement and research stays of 1 academic year (11 months), 1 semester (5 months) or 4 weeks.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You study at a university in China, not in Spain.
- Recommending centre: To apply through Granada, you must study at the Instituto Confucio at the University of Granada, or be a University of Granada student whose studies relate to the Chinese language.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply, except citizens of the People's Republic of China.
- Age: Between 16 and 35 by 1 September 2026. Working Chinese teachers can be up to 45; Bachelor applicants are generally under 25.
- Prior degree: This depends on the track. The Doctorate needs a relevant Master's, the Master needs a Bachelor's, and the Bachelor needs a school-leaving certificate (bachillerato).
- Chinese level: You need HSK and HSKK certificates that match your track. HSK tests written Chinese; HSKK tests spoken Chinese. The level rises with the track: HSK 6 (or HSK 7) for the Doctorate, HSK 5 for the Master, HSK 4 for the Bachelor, and HSK 3 to 4 for the improvement stays. Certificates must be no more than 2 years old.
- Character and health: You have no criminal record and are in good physical and mental health.
- Repeat rule: For the 1-year and 1-semester improvement scholarships, you cannot apply if you got a scholarship in the same category in the last 3 years.
- Job commitment (optional): You do not need a signed commitment to work at a teaching institution later, but applicants who provide one are preferred.
How to apply
You register and apply on the CLEC online platform from 1 March 2026. Then email the Instituto Confucio at Granada to confirm you have applied and to get your recommendation letter validated. For courses starting in September 2026, the deadline is 15 May 2026. Other dates apply to the July 2026, December 2026 and March 2027 starts. A panel reviews your grades, HSK/HSKK levels and other factors. Results come out roughly three months before the course begins.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a targeted award. You must have a specific Chinese level, be within the age limit, and apply through a recommending centre such as Granada. That narrows the field to committed Chinese-language students. If you clearly meet the HSK/HSKK level for your track and want to teach or research Chinese, your prospects are good. A future-employment commitment or a strong recommendation strengthens your case. Meeting the exact language requirements is the main hurdle.
