Czech government scholarships for foreign students

You will receive a monthly grant of about 480 EUR (12,000 CZK) if you do not yet hold a Master’s degree, or about 520 EUR (13,000 CZK) if you already hold such a degree. Your tuition fees will be waived, meaning you will not have to pay any costs to study at a Czech state university. The funding runs for 2 to 10 months and may be extended if you reapply for the following year and are selected again. This is a study or research placement, not a full degree programme. The Czech Ministry of Education organises this in collaboration with your home country. Accommodation and meals are not covered; you will need to pay for these yourself.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a student, graduate or PhD student. Research assistants may only apply if the exchange programme with your country includes them.
• Where you go: You are studying or conducting research at a Czech state university.
• Field of study: Applications are open to students of all disciplines; however, your topic in the Czech Republic must correspond to the subject you are studying or have studied at home. Art students must also submit samples of their work.
• Nationality: Your country must have an exchange agreement with the Czech Republic. The countries eligible to take part are determined each year.
• Nomination: You must be officially nominated by the relevant authority in your home country. Applications sent directly to the Czech Ministry will not be accepted.
• Language: Teaching is mainly conducted in Czech. English-language courses are possible provided that the host university waives all tuition fees.

How to apply

You must apply via the nominating body in your home country. This body sets its own deadline and carries out the initial selection. Once you have been nominated, you must register on the Czech online system. The next call for applications for the year 2027/2028 is expected to be published in autumn 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is restricted to a specific list of countries with which an exchange agreement is in place, and you must first be nominated by your own national authority. The pool of applicants is therefore already limited before the Czech side reviews your application. If your country is on the list and you meet the requirements regarding academic level and field of study, your chances will depend mainly on whether you receive this nomination from your home country. Draw up a clear study plan and apply in good time, as your national authority sets the actual deadline.
