Donald & Beryl O'May Scholarship

You get roughly EUR 7,000 to EUR 17,500 per year (£6,000 to £15,000) for the length of your course, to cover Home-rate tuition fees and living costs. Wolfson College at the University of Cambridge funds this award from a donation. The College may add money from other university bodies to raise the amount, but this is not guaranteed. Up to about two scholarships are given each year, and the funding cannot run beyond the end of your course.

Who can apply

• College: You have an offer from Wolfson College and accepted it, and you named it as your first or second choice in your Cambridge application.
• Field of study: You study arts, humanities or social sciences, including law.
• Level: Mainly for postgraduates (Master's and PhD). Undergraduates may be contacted later in the year if money is left over.
• Nationality: You are a citizen of the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland.
• Grades: Your academic performance is the main criterion.
• Financial need: Your financial situation and any hardship are also taken into account.
• Break in studies: Preference goes to applicants who had a significant break in their education at some point after leaving school.

How to apply

There is no separate application form. When you apply for postgraduate study at Cambridge, name Wolfson College as your first or second choice and opt in for funding through the Applicant Portal. The deadline is the funding deadline of your course. Results come out between May and July.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly: you must hold a Wolfson place, study arts, humanities or social sciences, and be a UK or Irish citizen, and only about two are given each year. Because the field is small, a well-matched applicant with strong grades has real prospects, especially one who fits the preference for a significant break in studies. Note that the next scholarship only opens once current holders graduate.
