DSU Toscana scholarship at the University of Pisa

You get a monthly cash grant plus free housing, free meals in the university canteens and a full waiver of the regional tuition fee. The cash amount is not fixed. It depends on your family's finances and on whether you live at home, commute or move away to study. Students who live far away get the most. The money comes from DSU Toscana, the regional agency that funds university students across Tuscany, including the University of Pisa. The award covers one academic year, so you reapply each year. Funding lasts up to the standard length of your degree plus one extra semester: 3 years plus a semester for a bachelor's, 2 years plus a semester for a master's.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled, or about to enrol, at the University of Pisa or another Tuscan institution covered by DSU Toscana.
• Level: Bachelor's, master's, single-cycle master's, plus some doctoral and specialisation courses.
• First degree only: This must be your first time studying at that level. A second degree of the same level does not qualify.
• Financial need: Your family's ISEE (an official Italian measure of household income and assets) is at most 27,000 EUR, and your ISPE (household wealth indicator) is at most 60,000 EUR. Higher limits apply if you have a disability or minor children.
• Study progress: First-year students qualify on financial need alone, with credits checked afterwards. From the second year on, you need a set number of ECTS credits (for example 25 credits by the second year of a bachelor's).
• Nationality: Open to Italian, EU and non-EU students, including stateless people, refugees and asylum seekers. Students from abroad must document their family income from their home country.

How to apply

You apply online through the DSU Toscana student portal (Sportello Studente). For the 2026/2027 year, bachelor's and master's applications run from 20 July to 7 September 2026, and doctoral and specialisation applications from 25 September to 16 November 2026. There is no interview. Places are awarded by a ranking based on financial need and academic results.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a need-based public scholarship, so your chances depend mostly on your ISEE figure. If you fall well within the income and asset limits and meet the credit requirements, you have solid prospects. It is not a competition you win on merit alone, and the funding pot is large because it covers all of Tuscany. Get your ISEE declaration ready and apply within the window, because a late or incomplete file can cost you the award.
