ASEM - Asia-Europe Meeting - DUO-Korea Fellowship Program

What You Get

Each selected student receives €4,000 to fund one semester of exchange (up to 4 months). The money is paid directly to you by the ASEM-DUO Secretariat and can be used freely — for tuition, living costs, or travel.

How This Programme Works

DUO-Korea uses a pair model: two students are always funded together. One student from a European university goes to a partner university in Korea, and at the same time one Korean student goes to that same European university. You and your Korean counterpart apply as a pair — individual applications are not possible.

Applications are submitted once a year by the International Relations Office of the Korean university — not by students directly. If you are a European student interested in applying, contact your own university's international office and ask them to connect you with a Korean partner institution.

Eligibility

To qualify, all of the following must be true:

• Nationality: You are a citizen of one of the 30 ASEM European member countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom).
• Enrolment: You are a Bachelor's or Master's student (not a PhD student) enrolled at a European university.
• Partner agreement: Your European university and the Korean host university have a formal academic cooperation agreement (a signed MoU — a Memorandum of Understanding, meaning an official partnership document).
• Matched pair: Your European university has selected you to go to Korea, and the Korean university has accepted you — and that same Korean university has selected a Korean student to come to your European university, which your university has also accepted.
• Still in your home region: At the time of application, you have not yet left Europe to start any exchange abroad.
• Credits: You will transfer at least 20 ECTS credits during the exchange (language and sports courses do not count).
• No double-funding: You are not receiving any other government or institutional funding for the same exchange.

Duration

• Standard length: 1 semester, funded for up to 4 months (120 days).
• Shorter semester: The fellowship is reduced proportionally if your semester is shorter than 4 months.
• Minimum: Exchanges shorter than one full semester are not eligible.

What Subjects Can You Study?

All academic disciplines are welcome — there is no subject restriction.

Application Deadline

The Korean university's international office must submit the application by 20 May (Korean local time). No late applications are accepted. Results are announced approximately one month after the deadline.

What to Do as a European Student

1. Find a Korean university that has a cooperation agreement with your university (or ask your international office to establish one).
2. Ask your university's international office to nominate you as part of a student pair.
3. Prepare a motivation letter (maximum one A4 page) and provide your passport copy and official transcripts issued after 1 March of the application year.
4. The Korean university's international office submits the full application online on behalf of both universities.
