Engineering Excellence Scholarship / International Undergraduate Scholarship

Benefit

You get a one-off cash payment of up to about EUR 3,500 (£3,000) in your first year. It is paid to you at the start of your studies, not taken off your tuition fees. The exact amount depends on your grades: about EUR 1,150 (£1,000) for A*AA, EUR 2,300 (£2,000) for A*A*A, and EUR 3,500 (£3,000) for A*A*A*. Equivalent grades from other countries count too. In each following year you get about EUR 1,150 (£1,000) more, as long as you scored at least a 70% average in the previous year. The award comes from Sheffield's Faculty of Engineering for international students starting an engineering degree.

Eligibility

• Fee status: You are an international student, classified as overseas for tuition-fee purposes.
• Field of study: You start an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Engineering, for example Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, or Mechatronic and Robotic Engineering.
• Grades: You beat the standard offer for your course, meaning A*AA or better (or the equivalent from your own country).
• Where you study: You study full-time on campus at the University of Sheffield, starting in Year 1.
• Firm choice: You picked the University of Sheffield as your firm choice in the UCAS application.

How to apply

There is no separate application. If you meet the conditions and start your engineering degree at Sheffield, you get the scholarship automatically. It is processed in October of your starting year.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is narrowly cut: you must be an international student in specific engineering departments and beat the standard entry grades, so the eligible group is small and there is no competitive selection to lose out in. If you hit those grades, hold an offer in one of the named subjects and make Sheffield your firm choice, you automatically receive the money. The main hurdle is academic: the top payment needs A*A*A*.
