About this scholarship

Feindt Foundation research scholarship

You get funding that covers the actual costs of your research project or thesis, based on your own budget plan. There is no fixed monthly rate and no set duration. The foundation reimburses project costs such as travel, conference fees, accommodation and, where needed, research supplies. It can fund dissertations and other academic final projects. The provider is the Hamburg-based Arthur und Aenne Feindt-Stiftung, set up in 1978, which supports science and research that helps secure people's basic living conditions.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are a student or researcher working on a thesis, dissertation or research project.
  • Topic: Your work connects to one of the foundation's themes: energy supply, nutrition or socially fair housing. This is the key filter.
  • Field of study: Any subject is suitable, provided the topic is relevant. Natural sciences, biology, nutritional science, veterinary medicine and agricultural science are particularly well suited.
  • Supervisor backing: You have a written assessment from your supervisor regarding your qualifications and your project.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • University: You can study at any university.

How to apply

You should submit a written application directly to the foundation. There is no set application form. Please enclose with your application your CV detailing your academic background, a description and objectives of your project, a detailed budget, a timetable, a note regarding any parallel funding applications, and a statement from your supervisor. The Board makes its decision every April. Please apply in good time so that you receive a decision at least three months before the costs are incurred.

How realistic are your chances?

Funding is limited to specific topics: your project must have a clear link to the fields of energy supply, food or fair housing, meaning that fewer applicants are eligible than for open scholarships. If your final-year dissertation fits one of these topics and your supervisor supports you with a strong recommendation, your chances are good. Make sure you apply in good time, as the committee meets only once a year and must make its decision before you incur any expenses.
