About this scholarship
What you get
The DAAD (Germany's national academic exchange service) covers your tuition fees for a four-week German language course at a German university, plus a one-time cash allowance of EUR 475, accommodation in a single room (student dormitory, shared flat or private household), and health, accident and personal liability insurance. Applicants from certain countries also receive a travel subsidy. The course runs between June and September, five days a week with at least 25 teaching hours per week, and cannot be extended.
Eligibility
- Where you study: You are currently enrolled at a university outside Germany and remain enrolled throughout the scholarship period.
- Degree level: You are studying towards a bachelor's or master's degree in any subject.
- Study progress: Bachelor's students must have completed at least two full years of university study before the course starts. Master's students can apply at any stage.
- Age: You are at least 18 years old when the course begins.
- German language level: You can follow lectures in German and take part in group work. You must prove this with a certificate no older than one year, such as TestDaF, a Goethe-Institut certificate, telc Deutsch, DSH, DSD, ÖSD or onSET-Deutsch. A B2-level or TDN4 certificate may be up to two years old.
- One-time only: You can receive this scholarship only once.
How to apply
Apply online through the DAAD portal between 1 September and 30 October. You name three course preferences; DAAD then assigns you to a course. Selection is based on your academic record and a motivation letter written in German.
