About this scholarship

GREAT Scholarships for students from India

You get at least about EUR 11,700 (£10,000) off your tuition fees for a one-year taught master's degree at a UK university in 2026-27. Some universities pay more. The University of Bristol, for example, offers about EUR 15,200 (£13,000). Twelve scholarships are set aside for students from India, spread across around 13 universities. The money comes jointly from the UK government's GREAT Britain Campaign, the British Council and the universities. Your university pays it once you enrol. You also join a network of GREAT scholars, with a welcome event in your first term and a networking event in your second.

Who can apply

  • Nationality and residence: You hold an Indian passport and live permanently in India.
  • Degree level: You want to start a one-year taught master's, and you already hold a bachelor's degree that qualifies you for it.
  • Where you study: You study at one of the participating UK universities, such as Anglia Ruskin, Queen's University Belfast, University of Bristol, University of Kent, University of Reading or University of Surrey.
  • Field of study: This depends on the university. Some limit it to set subjects, for example law at Queen's Belfast, or education, healthcare, robotics and pharmacy at Anglia Ruskin. Others, such as Bristol and Surrey, open it to all full-time master's courses.
  • English: You meet the English language requirements of your chosen university.
  • Motivation: You can show genuine interest in your chosen field.

How to apply

There is no central application. You apply directly to the university you have chosen, following the instructions on its own GREAT Scholarship page. Deadlines differ by university, for example 10 April 2026 at Bristol, 30 April 2026 at Anglia Ruskin, and late May 2026 at Surrey and Queen's Belfast. Each university picks its own scholars and tells you the result.

How realistic are your chances?

With only 12 scholarships for all of India and a well-known name behind them, competition is real. Your best move is to pick a university where you clearly fit the eligible courses and meet the English and entry requirements, then apply as early as you can. A strong, focused case for one university beats spreading yourself thin.
