About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive 180 EUR per month for your studies at a Greek university. Payment will be made from the start of the academic year until the end of the standard duration of your degree programme. To retain this funding, you must achieve good academic results: you must pass at least two-thirds of your examinations in each examination period. The funds come from the estate of Ialemos Kyprianidis (a bequest) and are administered by the Greek Ministry of Education in conjunction with the Ministry of Finance. In total, there are 6 scholarships: 4 for male students and 2 for female students.

Who can apply

  • Study level: You are a bachelor's student at a Greek university, no further than your 4th semester when you apply.
  • Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
  • Where you went to school: You completed your secondary education in the Athens metropolitan area.
  • Where you live: Your permanent home is in that same greater Athens area.
  • Nationality: You are a Greek citizen or of Greek descent.
  • Age: You are no older than 36.
  • School grades: Your school leaving certificate must show a grade of at least ‘Lian Kala’ (very good), and your conduct must be rated at least ‘Kosmia’.
  • No double funding: You are not currently receiving any other scholarship for the same course of study from a bequest, an inheritance or a donation.

How to apply

Please submit your application and supporting documents by 30 October, either in person or by post, to the Scholarship Office of the Ministry of Education in Marousi, Athens. Selection will be based on a written examination to be held at the Ministry’s building in Athens. On a scale of 0 to 20, you must achieve an average of at least 14 in both examination subjects, which depend on your field of study. In the event of a tie between two applicants, the decision will be made by drawing lots.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is given to very few people. You must have attended school in the Greater Athens area and still live there, be a Greek national, be in your first two years of university, and pass a written examination with a solid average mark. This keeps the pool of eligible candidates small. If you clearly meet these requirements and prepare for the exam, your chances of securing one of the 6 places are certainly realistic.
