About this scholarship

Leeds Bursary

You get a grant of up to about EUR 2,300 per year (£2,000) that you never pay back, from the University of Leeds. The amount depends on your household income: about EUR 2,300 (£2,000) if your household earns up to £25,000, about EUR 1,725 (£1,500) up to £30,000, about EUR 1,150 (£1,000) up to £36,000, and about EUR 575 (£500) up to £42,875. Part-time students get a smaller amount based on their credit load, roughly EUR 195 to EUR 2,160 (£170 to £1,875) per year. You choose how to receive it: cash into your bank account, a discount on your tuition fees, or a discount on your university accommodation. If you take certain science foundation-year courses (such as Gateway Year to Medicine), you can also get a tuition-fee reduction of up to about EUR 3,450 (£3,000) per year on top.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are on an undergraduate course at the University of Leeds lasting at least one year (a degree, foundation degree, DipHE or CertHE).
  • Full or part time: Both count. Part-time students must take at least 30 credits a year (25% of a full-time course).
  • Nationality: You are a UK student, settled in the UK, who normally lived in England, Northern Ireland or Scotland for the three years before your course. Channel Islands and Isle of Man students do not qualify.
  • Financial need: Your household income is below £42,875 a year, as assessed by the Student Loans Company. If you started before August 2024, the limit is £36,000.
  • Fees: You pay the full home tuition fee (£9,535 in 2025), or the pro-rata amount if part-time.
  • First degree: You do not already hold a degree-level or higher qualification. This does not apply to Nursing, Midwifery or Dental Hygiene & Therapy students with full statutory funding.
  • Course type: You are not on a study-abroad year, a work-placement year or a degree apprenticeship.

How to apply

If you study full time, there is no separate application. The university checks your eligibility automatically using your student record and the household income the Student Loans Company holds. You and your sponsors just need to consent to sharing that income data. If you study part time, you apply every October after enrolling. The deadline is 31 October to get your first payment on time.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a guaranteed grant, not a competition. If your household income is below £42,875 and you meet the other criteria, you receive it. There is no selection and no fixed pot to run out, so your only task is to make sure your income assessment is in place. For full-time students this happens automatically. The main risk is missing the consent step or, for part-time students, the October deadline.
