About this scholarship
The Lilly Lorénzen Scholarship
You will receive a one-off scholarship of approximately 1,850 EUR (2,000 USD) to study in Sweden. The American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis awards this scholarship once a year to one person. It is intended to fund higher education, vocational training or other academic and creative activities in Sweden during the academic year.
Who can apply
- Where you live: You live in Minnesota and are not currently living in Sweden.
- Your study plan: You have a specific plan to study in Sweden, including your departure date, length of stay and the name of a specific university or institution.
- Swedish language: You have a working knowledge of the Swedish language.
- Field of study: Any subject is possible, whether at university, in vocational training or as part of another academic or vocational course.
- Track record: You have a proven track record of solid performance in your field.
- Cultural exchange: Your project promotes cultural exchange between the US and Sweden.
- Other funding: You may receive other grants at the same time.
How to apply
Fill in the official application form and send it to the American Swedish Institute by email or post by 1 May. Attach a one-page statement on why you want to study in Sweden, a record of your achievements, and three references. The Institute decides based on your documents and sends out results at the end of May.
How realistic are your chances?
This award is narrow. You must live in Minnesota, know Swedish and have a firm plan to study in Sweden, so few people qualify and only one person is chosen each year. If you clearly meet those conditions and can show real ties to Swedish culture, your prospects are good. A convincing, well-evidenced statement matters more than a perfect transcript.
