What you get

You receive a tax-free grant of 28,500 SEK per month (about 2,500 EUR) for up to two years. This lets you build your research career in one of the research groups at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV) at Linköping University in Sweden. The amount applies to fellowships (grants for early-career researchers) decided in 2025. You follow your own agreed qualification plan, not a joint project shared between partners.

One thing to know: you are not employed, so the grant does not include paid holiday, sick pay, parental benefit or pension rights. If you come from abroad, you are covered by Sweden's insurance for foreign visitors, but check your own cover too.

Who can apply

• Degree: You hold a PhD or an equivalent doctoral degree.
• Where you got it: You earned your doctorate in a country other than Sweden.
• How recent: You finished your doctorate no more than four years before the deadline.
• Nationality: You are not a Swedish national.
• Field: Your work fits one of the biomedical and clinical research groups at BKV.

How to apply

There is no fixed annual deadline. A fellowship opens when a research group needs one, and it is then advertised for at least three weeks. You send your application to the department's HR coordinator, and the head of department decides who is awarded.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a narrowly cut fellowship: you need a foreign doctorate under four years old, you must not be a Swedish national, and you must match a specific BKV research group that has just opened a place. You are not competing against a huge pool, but there is no standing call, so timing matters. If you already have a contact or a clear fit with a group at BKV and watch for the short advertising window, your prospects are good.
