About this scholarship
MER Consortium Grants-Waivers
For the ‘MER2030’ Master’s programme in Marine Environment, you will receive a grant of cut in your yearly tuition fee, which amounts to up to approximately 5,000 EUR per year. The amount depends on your category. Non-EU students may receive a reduction of up to 5,000 EUR on the annual fee of 9,000 EUR (Smooth Fee 3C Grant). Students from the EU can receive a waiver of 2,000 EUR (Waiver Plus) or 1,000 EUR (Waiver Minus) from the annual fee of 4,500 EUR. The reduction applies for one academic year. It is awarded by the MER Consortium, an alliance of European universities (the Basque Country, Southampton, Bordeaux and Liège) which runs this joint Erasmus Mundus Master’s programme – a two-year Master’s programme taught across several partner universities. This is intended to support high-achieving MER students who have not been awarded an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
Who can apply
- Admission first: You have already been admitted to the MER Master’s programme. You should apply for the exemption as part of your MER application and not separately.
- Field of study: You are studying ‘Marine Environment’ on the MER Master’s programme2030.
- No other funding: You will not receive any Erasmus Mundus funding or any other grant that overlaps with it, such as a national grant.
- Grades: Your academic performance to date has been very good. The academic committee will decide.
- Nationality: Open to all nationalities. Should funding be limited, preference will be given to applicants from the consortium’s partner and associated countries.
How to apply
Once you have been admitted, apply for the exemption via the MER online application portal under the ‘Scholarships and Funding’ section. The deadline is 15 July. Please apply early, as places are limited.
How realistic are your chances?
This exemption applies only to a specific Master’s programme; therefore, only students who have already been admitted to the MER programme may apply. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet the academic requirements and have no other source of funding, your chances are good, particularly if you come from a partner or associated country. Places are limited and funding is subject to availability; you should therefore apply as early as possible.
