Norma Robertson Postgraduate Masters Scholarship

You get your full tuition fees paid for one academic year of a master's degree at the University of Edinburgh's School of Divinity (New College). The money goes straight onto your tuition bill, so you never receive cash. You are also expected to take an active part in the postgraduate community and present your work to other students and staff. Only one scholarship is awarded each year. It honours Rev Dr Norma Robertson, an Edinburgh minister who studied the Bible and church history. Living costs are not covered, so you fund those yourself.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are applying to start a master's programme in September 2026, either MTh/MSc Biblical Studies or MTh Theology in History.
• New applicant: You are applying for the first time. You do not need an offer in hand to apply.
• Grades: You have, or expect, a UK first-class or 2:1 undergraduate degree, or the equivalent from another country.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply, including international students.
• Age: Open to all ages.

How to apply

You apply through the university's scholarship system. Everyone hears the result by the end of June 2026. The application window for 2026-2027 entry has now closed, and funding for 2027/28 is not yet confirmed.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is given, and it is tied to two specific theology master's programmes at a single university. That makes the field small, but the odds stay tight because just one person wins. If you clearly meet the 2:1 grade bar and fit Biblical Studies or Theology in History well, you have a real shot. Treat it as competitive rather than a sure thing.
