What you get

As an international student on this MSc, you automatically get the International Welcome to Plymouth Scholarship: £4,000 off your first-year tuition fees (about 4,700 EUR). The MSc Social Research is a one-year master at the University of Plymouth. It trains you in qualitative, quantitative and big-data research methods, includes real-world consultancy projects, and ends with your own dissertation. Full-time international tuition is £19,500 per year (about 22,900 EUR) for 2026-2027, so the scholarship covers roughly a fifth of your first year.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled on the MSc Social Research on the Plymouth campus, on-site rather than distance learning.
• Nationality: You are an international student who pays international tuition fees.
• Degree: You hold an honours degree at 2:1 (upper second class) or better in a social science subject, or an equivalent international qualification.
• School qualifications: You have GCSE Maths and English at grade 4/C or above, or the equivalent.
• English: You have at least IELTS 6.5 overall, with no part below 5.5.
• Not already funded: You are not a sponsored student and not on a Peninsula Medical or Dental School course. If you qualify for several Plymouth awards, you only get the highest one.

How to apply

You apply for the MSc through the University of Plymouth online application. The programme starts in September only. There is no separate scholarship form: you get the £4,000 automatically once you have an offer and meet its conditions.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive prize but an automatic fee discount for every international student who gets a place and meets the conditions. If you are admitted on international fees, are not sponsored and are not on an excluded course, you receive it. Your real task is meeting the entry requirements for the master itself, above all the 2:1 degree and IELTS 6.5.
