About this scholarship

Polish School of Medicine Memorial Fund scholarship

You will receive funding of up to one year studying or researching at the University of Edinburgh Medical School. For a taught Master’s programme or a research-oriented Master’s programme in Edinburgh, the funding includes a living allowance for the duration of your studies, i.e. from 1 to 12 months. A limited number of scholarship holders will also receive support towards their tuition fees. If you are undertaking a distance-learning programme, the scholarship will generally cover your tuition fees but does not include a living allowance. Research costs and travel expenses to and from Poland are not covered. The number of scholarships varies each year depending on the funds available.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a Polish doctor or scientist.
  • Career stage: You completed your medical degree no more than approximately 10 years ago.
  • Employer: You work at a Polish medical college, university or research institute.
  • Where you study: You have applied for a taught Master’s programme or a research-based Master’s programme at the University of Edinburgh.
  • Field: Medicine and medical research.
  • Language: You speak excellent English.
  • Commitment: You plan to return to Poland afterwards and put your new knowledge to use in medical research there.

How to apply

First, apply for admission to a postgraduate programme at the University of Edinburgh. Once you are registered in the system, complete the online scholarship application via the university’s MyEd portal. It may take up to five working days after submitting your application for admission to gain access to the system. You should therefore start the process well in advance of the deadline on 23:59 UK time on 18 June. You will be notified of the result by mid-July.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is very targeted. You must be a Polish doctor or researcher, be employed at a Polish institution, have completed your degree approximately 10 years ago, and have been admitted to the University of Edinburgh. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet these requirements and apply early, your chances are good. Please note that the number of scholarships awarded each year depends on the funds available from the fund.
