About this scholarship
What you get
This is a funded university research programme on insurance and society. The University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and France Assureurs (the French insurers' federation, formerly the AFA) run it together. The money supports the research activities of a whole research chair, a long-term research post and team at a university. It pays for colloquia, study days, doctoral meetings, publications and the building of databases and research tools with French and international partners.
The programme studies how insurance (private insurance, provident schemes and mutual societies) has answered social change, crises and upheaval, in France and abroad. It draws on law, history, economics, mathematics and the social sciences. The scientific work is based at the Institut de Recherche Juridique de la Sorbonne (IRJS). The chair started as a research programme in 2016 and became a formal research chair on 12 December 2018.
