About this scholarship
What the Queen Jadwiga Scholarship gives you
You will receive a one-off payment of up to 2,100 PLN (about 490 EUR) for a 30-day research visit to Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. In addition to this cash payment, you will be provided with free accommodation in a shared twin room in a university hall of residence for the entire duration of your stay. The stay will take place during the academic year for which you are applying. The fund brings researchers from Central and Eastern Europe closer to the university and is financed by private donations.
Who can apply
- Who you are: You are a researcher or a PhD student at a university or research institute outside Poland.
- Where you come from: Your home institution is located in Central Europe, Eastern Europe, a former Soviet state (excluding Russia) or the Balkans.
- Your subject: Your research falls within one of the following five fields: history, economics and finance, political science and public administration, law, or international relations.
- Your plan: You have a specific research project that you would like to carry out at Jagiellonian University over a period of 30 days.
- Your contact there: A member of the university’s academic staff will support your application. As a PhD student, you will also need a letter from your supervisor or the head of your home university.
- Age: No age limit.
How to apply
Please complete the online application form and email your documents to the Fund’s secretariat by 31 May of the year prior to your planned stay. A university council will assess each application on the basis of your research proposal, your publications and your conference presentations. The final decision is made by the Vice-Chancellor.
How realistic are your chances?
The awarding of this scholarship is strictly regulated. You must come from a specific group of countries, be working in one of five specialist fields, and already have a contact at Jagiellonian University who can recommend you. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate with a compelling research proposal and a solid track record of publications stands a real chance of success. Your research proposal is the most important factor, as it accounts for up to half of the marks. Ensure it is closely aligned with the work of the institution you wish to join.
