About this scholarship

DAAD scholarship for a master's at Sciences Po Paris

You will receive between monthly grant of about 725 EUR and 24 months for a two-year Master’s programme at Sciences Po Paris (the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris). In addition to the monthly scholarship, you will receive a lump-sum travel allowance, health, accident and third-party liability insurance, and a reimbursement of your tuition fees of up to 9,000 EUR per academic year. If you are not a German national or are aiming to complete a dual Master’s degree, the tuition fee reimbursement is capped at 2,500 EUR per year. The scholarship is awarded by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), which supports German students studying abroad.

Who can apply

  • Degree you need: You must have obtained a first degree (Bachelor’s or higher) lasting at least three years before the start of the scholarship. A Master’s degree, a ‘Diplom’ or a state examination in law, teacher training, medicine or pharmacy is also recognised.
  • How recent: Your degree must not have been awarded more than five years prior to the date of application. Exceptions may be made for special reasons.
  • Where you go: You are undertaking a two-year Master’s degree programme at Sciences Po Paris. Dual Master’s programmes with a partner university in a third country are not covered.
  • Field of study: All compartments are open.
  • Nationality: The programme is aimed at German university graduates. Even if you are not a German national, you may apply subject to the DAAD’s general conditions.
  • Grades: You need to have achieved very good academic results (the DAAD supports top graduates).
  • Already started: If you are already in the first year of a two-year Master’s programme, you can only apply for the second year; you cannot extend your studies.

How to apply

You apply online via the DAAD portal and separately to Sciences Po for admission. The application deadline is 25 September for a scholarship commencing the following September. If your application passes the initial screening, you will be invited to present yourself to the selection panel in Bonn or online.

How realistic are your chances?

As this degree programme is linked to a highly prestigious institution, only those who are firmly committed to studying at Sciences Po Paris apply, which means the pool of applicants remains small. The selection process takes into account your grades, the quality of your study plan and your overall potential; therefore, a clear, well-prepared application is more important than your grades alone. With good academic results and an offer from Sciences Po in the bag, your prospects are very promising.
