The David Parkin PhD Scholarships

You get full funding for a PhD at the University of Bath in the UK for up to 4 years. This covers your international tuition fees in full, plus a yearly living allowance (stipend) of about EUR 24,000 per year (£20,780 for 2025 to September 2026, rising to £21,805 from October 2026). You also get an annual Training Support Fund for research costs. If you need it, you can request extra childcare funds, and this does not affect your selection. The Esther Parkin Trust funds the award. It is open to students from across the Americas.

Who can apply

• Where you come from: You are a citizen of a country in the Americas: North, Central, South America or the Caribbean.
• Degree: You want to start a PhD at the University of Bath and have not already started one there or anywhere else.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Grades: You have at least a UK 2:1 bachelor's degree or the international equivalent (an upper second-class result).
• Supervisor: You have a University of Bath academic who agrees to supervise you, and you name them in your application.
• English: You meet the university's English language requirement before the deadline.
• Visa: You can meet UK visa and immigration rules. The scholarship does not pay your UK student visa cost or the Immigration Health Surcharge, so budget for these yourself.

How to apply

First contact a suitable Bath supervisor and develop your research project with them. Applications without a named supervisor are not considered. Then apply online for your chosen doctoral programme. Select "Donor or Alumni Funded Studentship" and write "David Parkin Scholarship" in the funding section. Applications for 2026/27 close on 30 November 2025.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is limited by region: only students from the Americas qualify, which keeps the applicant pool smaller than a fully open scholarship. Your chances depend heavily on securing a Bath academic to back your project and on a strong academic record. The real work is lining up a supervisor early. If you clearly meet the grade bar and have committed supervisor support, a well-matched application has solid prospects.
