About this scholarship

What you get

The Rector’s Scholarship amounts to approximately EUR 277 per month (1,200 PLN) for up to 9 months (October to June). Students on semester programmes receive the scholarship for either 4 or 5 months, depending on the semester they are attending. The scholarship is tax-free. It is awarded by the University of Warsaw to the highest-achieving students in each year group and each degree programme. You may receive it alongside an Erasmus+ grant, but only for one degree programme at a time.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at the University of Warsaw.
  • Degree level: You are studying on a Bachelor’s, integrated Master’s or standalone Master’s programme. You do not yet hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent qualification, and you are not undertaking a second Bachelor’s degree having already completed one.
  • Study phase: The total number of your semesters does not exceed 12 (maximum 9 for a Bachelor’s degree, 7 for a Master’s degree). You are not repeating an academic year, did not take a break from your studies during the previous academic year, and are not writing your final thesis within an extended deadline.
  • First-year students: You must have taken your A-level exams in the same year in which you enrolled, and must hold the title of winner of an international Olympiad, prize-winner or finalist in a national Olympiad, or a medallist at a Polish national sports championship.
  • Continuing students: In the past academic year, you achieved a grade point average of over 4.00 on the University of Warsaw’s grading scale, or demonstrated significant academic, sporting or artistic achievements. Social commitment is not taken into account.
  • Nationality: Open to all nationalities and all fields of study.

How to apply

Apply via the USOSweb online system between 1 and 15 October. The application deadline is fixed. Selection is based on ranking: in 2025/2026, up to 6% students per year group and degree programme will receive the award.

How realistic are your chances?

You only compete against students on the same degree programme and in the same year group, which keeps the pool of applicants manageable. However, the upper limit of 6% is set quite low: Realistically, you need a grade point average well above 4.00 or a proven track record of outstanding academic achievement to reach the top category. The admission threshold can be set to within one decimal place, so a consistently strong academic record is the decisive factor.
