Wadham College, University of Oxford - Norwegian Scholarship

Benefit

You will receive your full university and college fees plus full living costs for one year at Wadham College, which is part of the University of Oxford. The scholarship covers your actual tuition fees and living costs, rather than paying a fixed amount. Older records put the annual value at around 175,000 NOK (approximately 15,000 EUR). The scholarship was first awarded in 1920 and is one of the oldest scholarships at the University of Oxford for international PhD students. As a rule, one scholarship holder is selected each year, who then becomes a full member of Wadham College.

Eligibility

• Where you study now: You are currently a student or have recently graduated from the University of Oslo.
• Where you go: You are enrolled on a postgraduate programme at Wadham College, Oxford; this grant is therefore intended to fund your studies abroad in the United Kingdom.
• Level: You are applying for a postgraduate programme, not a bachelor’s degree programme.
• Field of study: All subjects for which Wadham accepts students. Previous scholarship holders have studied law, medicine, mathematics, chemistry, history, archaeology and international relations.
• College choice: You state that Wadham is your first-choice college at Oxford.

How to apply

You do not apply directly. First, the relevant faculty or department must offer you a place at Oxford, specifying Wadham as your preferred college. The University of Oslo then puts forward candidates, and a selection committee in Norway makes the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is granted to very few candidates. You need to have a connection to the University of Oslo, a place at Oxford and a nomination in Norway; normally, only one scholarship holder is selected each year. This makes competition for the top places very fierce, but the pool of eligible applicants is small. A high-achieving student from Oslo with a firm offer from Oxford has a genuine chance. As the University of Oslo handles the nomination process, you should stay in close contact with the university to keep up to date with the procedure and timetable.
