USA sports scholarships through AGM Education

You can win a sports scholarship worth about 21,000 EUR per year (23,600 USD on average) at a US college. This can cover all or part of your tuition fees. The money comes from the American university, not from AGM. AGM Education is a Spanish agency that helps you find a place at university. It creates a digital profile featuring your academic results and sporting achievements, sends it to US coaches, negotiates offers with the universities and guides you through the admissions process and the application for a student visa. A scholarship usually covers a four-year degree programme in the US. AGM states that it has collaborated with over 900 universities and placed almost 3,000 student athletes. The initial review of your profile is free of charge. The full consultancy service is subject to a fee, although the price is not disclosed.

Who can apply

  • School leaving: You have completed upper secondary education (Gymnasium, Abitur or equivalent qualification).
  • Tests: You are ready to sit the SAT (US university entrance exam) and the TOEFL (English language test).
  • Sport level: You compete at a high level, either nationally or internationally. The better your results, the more scholarship offers you’ll receive.
  • League rules: You meet the eligibility requirements for US university sports leagues such as the NCAA and the NAIA.
  • Sport: There are vacancies in many sports, including football, tennis, basketball, golf, swimming, athletics, baseball, volleyball, ice hockey, rowing and lacrosse.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: Open to athletes of all nationalities.

How to apply

Fill in AGM’s free online registration form to get an initial assessment of your options. There is no fixed deadline, but AGM recommends starting your preparations around 12 months before the start of the academic year in the US. This will give you plenty of time to sit the tests and get in touch with more tutors.

How realistic are your chances?

Your level of sporting ability is the decisive factor. If you’re already competing at the top level in your sport and pass the SAT and TOEFL exams, you’ve got a real chance. The earlier you start and the more open-minded you are about which universities and leagues you’re considering, the more offers you’re likely to receive. A scholarship isn’t guaranteed: the decision lies with the US universities, and under NCAA rules, an agency such as AGM cannot promise you a scholarship.
