What the Bertil Edlund Scholarship gives you

You will be offered a paid internship for 12 months at the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York (SACCNY), based in Manhattan. The scholarship is worth approximately 2,200 EUR per month. Throughout the year, you will work full-time on the Chamber’s day-to-day operations: planning and organising events, member services, marketing and publications. You will also learn how trade between Sweden and the United States works and meet leading figures from both business communities. The scholarship is funded by the Bertil Edlund Foundation, which was established by partners at the accountancy firm PwC in Sweden.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are in the final year of your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at a Swedish university, or you have recently graduated.
• Field of study: Your degree subject is economics, business administration, finance, marketing or a closely related field.
• Willing to move: The role is based in New York, so you’ll be able to work there for a whole year.
• Ties to Sweden: You are a Swedish national or have close personal and professional ties to Sweden. This is a prerequisite for the J-1 visa (a US visa for exchange visitors), which the Chamber will apply for on your behalf.
• Languages: You speak and write both English and Swedish fluently.
• Experience: Professional experience in the business sector and time spent abroad are an advantage, but not a requirement.

Please send your application by email to SACCNY, together with a covering letter, a one-page CV and your academic transcripts. The application deadline is in early October (7 October for the cycle starting the following year). Places are allocated on the basis of your application documents.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one person is selected each year, so it is more of a single, highly competitive place than a widely available scholarship. On the other hand, the pool of applicants is small: you need a background in business administration in Sweden, fluency in Swedish and English, connections to Sweden, and the ability to move to New York for a year. If you clearly fit this profile and can demonstrate international experience, you have a realistic chance of success. A compelling, well-substantiated application is more important than the size of the applicant pool.
