Donationsnämnden scholarship (University of Gothenburg)

You receive a one-off payment. Bachelor and master students get 10,000 SEK (about 890 EUR), doctoral students get 15,000 SEK (about 1,330 EUR). In special cases the bachelor and master amount can be higher. The money comes from several donation funds run by the joint donation board of the philosophical faculties at the University of Gothenburg. It is paid once a year in the autumn term. One fund pays extra to bachelor and master students who have belonged to the student union for at least a year and started their studies less than five years ago.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Gothenburg in a department that counts as a "philosophical faculty". This covers all humanities departments, the School of Business, natural sciences (but not former IT-faculty departments), and in social sciences the departments of psychology, sociology and work science, political science and global studies. For education it covers the subject of pedagogy, but not teacher-training programmes.
• Level and progress (bachelor/master): By the deadline you have studied for at least two semesters and earned at least 60 credits (hp) in one of these departments.
• Level (doctoral): By the deadline you are registered as a doctoral student in one of these departments.
• Active studies: You are studying in the year the money is paid out, full or half time. That means at least 30 credits over the calendar year.
• Income (bachelor/master only): Your taxable income is under 235,200 SEK (figure for 2025).
• First time: You have not received this scholarship at your level before.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. What matters is that you actively study at the University of Gothenburg.

How to apply

You apply through the university's online scholarship system and confirm your application with BankID (a Swedish digital ID). For 2026 the deadline is Tuesday, 3 March 2026. The donation board decides who gets a scholarship.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is limited to students in specific departments of one university. You also need to meet the level, progress and (for bachelor and master students) income tests. So the eligible group is much smaller than for an open scholarship. If you clearly fit the faculty definition, have your 60 credits and stay under the income limit, your prospects are solid. Because it draws on several funds and is paid yearly, more than one student is supported each round.
