What you get

You receive a scholarship from one of the donation funds tied to Stockholm University's Faculty of Science. Each fund has its own purpose and its own budget, awarded for one academic year. Amounts vary a lot: for the coming round they range from about 5,000 SEK (roughly 450 EUR) in the smallest fund up to 240,000 SEK (roughly 21,000 EUR) shared among winners in the largest. Some funds split their budget into several awards. One fund gives three grants of 32,000 SEK each (about 2,800 EUR). Another divides 130,000 SEK (about 11,500 EUR) across up to four scholarships. You apply once and are considered for every fund you fit. The funding period runs from 1 September to 31 August the following year.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at Stockholm University when you apply, and you plan to keep studying there next academic year.
• Level: All levels can apply, but doctoral (PhD research) students get priority across the board.
• Field of study: Your subject must be in the sciences. Individual funds narrow this further, for example only chemistry, physics, mathematics, astronomy, biology or biochemistry.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities. A few funds prefer a specific background when candidates are equally strong, for example applicants of Polish origin for one cell-biology fund. This is a tie-breaker, not a barrier.
• Extra conditions by fund: Some funds add their own requirement, such as being a female teacher pursuing further study, having no financial means, or having studied at the faculty for at least two years.

How to apply

You apply once a year through the university's shared online system at minastipendier.se, logging in with your university account. You do not apply to each fund separately. The application window is 15 March to 15 April, and decisions are sent by email in mid-June. Add attachments only if the online form asks for them.

How realistic are your chances?

You must already be a science student at Stockholm University, and many funds are cut narrowly to one subject or background, so few people compete for each one. If you are a doctoral student in the right field, the priority for research students works strongly in your favour. Aim for a funded, tightly-defined fund that matches you well for the best odds. Note that one fund currently holds no money.
