About this scholarship

The Gustafsberg Foundation Scholarship

You are eligible for financial support for your studies if you are from Bohuslän, a region on Sweden’s west coast, and are unable to fund your studies entirely yourself. There is no fixed amount. The foundation determines the level of funding based on the financial plan you submit, taking into account your income, expenditure, savings and debts. The grant can range from 1 semesters to 11 semesters (5.5 years) and therefore also covers long degree programmes such as a 5-year engineering degree. Previous scholarship holders have studied subjects including medicine, law, civil engineering, economics, architecture and social work.

Who can apply

  • Where you're from: You were born and raised in Bohuslän. You prove this with a civil registration certificate (personbevis) showing your birthplace. The Hisingen parishes (Öckerö, Torslanda, Björlanda, Säve, Backa, Brunnsbo, Bäckebol and Rödbo) count as Bohuslän; the rest of Gothenburg does not.
  • Age: At the time of applying, you are no older than 24 years and 6 months.
  • Level of study: You are studying at a university or college in a theoretical or practical subject area. Any subject and any university or college are eligible.
  • Financial need: You are finding it difficult to fund your studies, primarily for financial reasons. You can demonstrate this by providing a financial plan setting out your income, expenditure, assets and debts.
  • Talent for your field: You show strong ability and aptitude for your chosen profession. You back this up with your final upper-secondary (gymnasium) grades or your Swedish higher education entrance exam (högskoleprov) results.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the online form on the Foundation’s website. Please attach your ‘Personbevis’, your academic transcripts and references. The deadline for applications is 1 September 2026. The Board will select the new scholarship holders at its meeting later that month. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant scheme is very restrictive. You must have been born and brought up in Bohuslän, be under 25 years of age and demonstrate a genuine financial need; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is small. In the 2025 round, only 10 valid applications were received. If you clearly meet the criteria regarding place of birth, age and financial need, and submit a complete application by the deadline, your chances are good.
