What the Jonsered Scholarship gives you

At Villa Martinson, a residence on Lake Aspen on the historic Jonsered estate near Gothenburg, Sweden, you will receive free accommodation for one month. You will also receive a small sum of money to cover additional costs, although the exact amount is not disclosed. The residence comprises five self-contained flats designed for independent work. Each flat has a kitchen and internet access, is set in natural surroundings and is 800 metres from Jonsered railway station, about 12 minutes by train from Gothenburg. It is a peaceful place to work on a project without disturbance. The scholarship is awarded by the Jonsered Foundation, a joint initiative of Partille Municipality and the University of Gothenburg.

Who can apply

• What you do: Are you a researcher, PhD student, author, writer, journalist or other type of writer, and do you need time to work in peace and quiet?
• Your project: You have a clearly defined role to fulfil during your stay and are able to describe its purpose in detail.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. An application form in English is available.
• Field of study: Open to all disciplines.

How to apply

You can apply for the flat online using the form on the Partille local authority website. If you wish to submit your application in English, you can download the English version of the form and send it by email. There is no set deadline. You can submit your application at any time and specify the months that suit you. Please submit your application well in advance of your preferred month, as the number of flats is limited and they are snapped up quickly.

How realistic are your chances?

As this is a targeted scholarship for individuals with a specific writing or research project, rather than a general study scholarship, the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. There are only five flats available, and there is no fixed intake quota, which is why timing is crucial. Apply early for your preferred month and describe your project in detail, as a description that is too brief will reduce your chances. A suitable applicant with a clear plan has good prospects.
