Vision - Social Work Scholarship

Vision Social Work Scholarship (Socionomstipendium)

You will receive a one-off award of 20,000 SEK (about 1,800 EUR) for a dissertation you have written on the subject of social work. This prize is awarded once a year at the end of October by Vision, a Swedish trade union. You are responsible for paying any tax due on the prize money. Vision also reserves the right to use your thesis for its own communication purposes.

Who can apply

• What you write: Your dissertation is on social work.
• Level: The thesis was written at Bachelor’s, Magister or Master’s level and has been recognised by a university or institution of higher education.
• Timing: You submitted your final dissertation in one of the two semesters before the deadline.
• Quality: The paper is well written and clearly structured; the analyses and conclusions are consistent with the underlying theory and methodology.
• Membership: All authors must be student members of Vision at the time of submission. Student membership is free of charge for the duration of their studies.
• Where you study: You’re studying in Sweden.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You apply via the online form on the Vision website, once you have registered, and upload your final-year dissertation there. The application period runs from 1 September to 30 June. A panel comprising representatives from Vision will assess each final-year project in terms of its relevance and quality. The winner will be announced in October.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this award are quite strict: you must have completed and passed a final dissertation in the field of social work, which must have been submitted within the specified timeframe, and you must already be a student member of ‘Vision’. This keeps the pool of applicants small. As membership is free, the quality of your work is the biggest hurdle. If your dissertation is well-argued and clearly relevant to the topic, you have a real chance of success.
