About this scholarship

SND travel scholarship for the ICPSR Summer Program

You will receive about 1,750 EUR to cover your course fees as well as your travel and accommodation costs in the USA. This will enable you to attend a summer school on statistics for social research at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The programme consists of up to two four-week blocks; shorter workshops lasting three to five days are also offered. The Swedish National Data Service (SND) funds the programme and awards between five and ten of these scholarships each year.

Who can apply

  • Level: You are a PhD student or have already completed your PhD.
  • Where you study: You work at a university or higher education institution in Sweden.
  • Field of study: Any subject is suitable, provided you wish to learn statistical methods for analysing social phenomena.
  • Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. What matters is your connection to a Swedish organisation, not your passport.

How to apply

Please send the application form directly to SND. The deadline for applications is around mid-March.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group: PhD students and postdoctoral researchers working at a Swedish institution who wish to undertake training in the field of statistics. Because of this narrowly defined target group, the number of applicants remains manageable, and with five to ten scholarships awarded each year, the chances of success are quite good. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria and apply by the deadline, your prospects are good.
