Uppsala University travel scholarships

You get a grant towards a study or research trip abroad, paid straight into your bank account. The amount is not fixed. These travel scholarships come from more than 500 separate donation funds linked to Uppsala University, and each fund sets its own award size. You cannot get more than you apply for, so your own budget sets the ceiling. The money covers real trip costs: return travel and local transport, accommodation, visa and vaccinations, a daily allowance based on the Swedish Tax Agency's table, and conference fees. In 2025 the university paid out 79.5 million SEK (about 6.9 million EUR) across all its scholarships combined.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are a student, doctoral candidate or researcher at Uppsala University.
• Enrolment: You study full time for the whole time you hold the scholarship.
• What the money is for: The trip is a study abroad period, a study trip or a research trip. It must happen in the same semester you apply for, or in one of the next two semesters. Trips that have already finished do not count.
• Field, faculty or background: Each fund has its own donor rules. Some are open to any subject. Others are tied to a specific faculty, a student nation, a home region, or even a family name. Use the university's scholarship search to see which funds fit you.
• Income limit: No income limit applies to travel scholarships.

How to apply

Log in to the university's online scholarship system with your student or staff account. You can apply for several scholarships in one form. The main application round opens at the start of each semester. For autumn 2026 it runs from 20 August to 10 September 2026, 17:00, with decisions in mid-December. Some individual funds have their own separate windows.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not one contested prize but a pool of over 500 funds, many cut very narrowly by faculty, region or family line. If you fit a specific fund's conditions, you face a small field and good prospects, since fewer people qualify. Submit a clear travel plan and a realistic cost breakdown, and apply for every fund you are eligible for in the same form.
