The Berwald Foundation Scholarship at KTH

You get a one-off award for strong results in mathematics during your engineering studies at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. You see the exact sum for the current round only after you log in to the KTH student system. Comparable KTH foundation scholarships pay between 2,000 SEK and 40,000 SEK (about 180 to 3,600 EUR). The money comes from the Hjalmar Berwald Memorial Foundation, which KTH manages.

Who can apply

• University: You study at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
• Programme: You are enrolled in one of three engineering programmes: Materials Design (CMATD), Chemical Engineering (CTKEM) or Civil Engineering and the Built Environment (CSAMH).
• Study year: You are in year 1 to 4 of your degree.
• Results: You have top grades in mathematics. This is the deciding criterion.

How to apply

You apply through the internal KTH scholarship system, which you reach with your KTH student account. The foundation runs the call once a year. In earlier years the deadline fell at the end of April.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly. Only KTH students in three specific programmes, in their first four years, with top maths grades can apply, so the eligible group is small. If you clearly fit those conditions and can show strong mathematics grades, your prospects are good. It rewards top performance rather than financial need, so it goes to the best students in the pool.
