Holm Fund scholarship for mycology research

You receive an annual scholarship to research fungi at Uppsala University in Sweden. The fund pays out the yearly return on its capital rather than a fixed monthly rate. It comes from the estate of Kerstin and Lennart Holm, two long-time mycology teachers at Uppsala University who left their fortune to keep fungus research going there.

How to apply

You apply through Uppsala University's scholarship system during the university's main application round, which is announced at the start of each semester. For the autumn 2026 round, the window runs from 20 August to 10 September, 17:00.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly. You must be a licentiate or doctoral student at one specific university working on fungi, not lichens, so very few people qualify. No scholarship was paid out in the fund's first years, which suggests either few qualified applicants or that a strong, well-matched candidate stands out easily. If you fit these exact conditions, your prospects are good and the yearly sum is substantial.
