BAO / Finansförbundet essay scholarship

You get a one-off prize of 20,000 SEK (about 1,750 EUR) for a completed thesis on gender equality and/or diversity in the banking and finance sector. The award is given once a year by the joint equality and diversity committee (CJMK) of the Swedish finance employers' organisation (formerly BAO, now Finansarbetsgivarna) and the finance union Finansförbundet.

Who can apply

• Level: You have written a thesis at a Swedish university or university college (bachelor's degree or higher).
• Topic: Your thesis deals with gender equality and/or diversity, seen from a perspective relevant to banking and finance.
• Field of study: Any subject works, for example business, gender studies, leadership, humanities, social sciences or education, as long as the content fits the topic.
• Timing: Your thesis is finished and has passed. It was approved no more than one year before the application year.
• Membership: You do not need to be a member of Finansförbundet.

How to apply

Apply through the online form on the Finansarbetsgivarna website between 1 June and 15 August. Attach your thesis with its summary, plus either a supervisor's certificate or a LADOK transcript (an official record of your completed studies) showing it passed. The committee picks the winner. If you win, you present your thesis once in Stockholm in the autumn to people from the banking and finance sector.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is narrow: one prize a year for a finished thesis on equality or diversity tied to banking and finance, so only a small group of recent graduates competes. If your thesis clearly fits that theme and was approved within the last year, your prospects are good. A clear, industry-relevant angle matters more than a big name, so make the finance connection obvious.
