University of Gothenburg - Adlerbert Foreign Student Hospitality Grant

What you get

You will receive a sum of one-time payment of 4,000 to 6,000 SEK (about 350 to 550 EUR). The exact amount depends on how many people receive this grant in a given year. The money comes from the Adlerbert Foundation at the University of Gothenburg, which was established by the founder Axel Adler to welcome international students to the city. You may receive this grant alongside other grants, provided that the other grant in question permits this. Payments are made into Swedish bank accounts in SEK, into other EU accounts in EUR and into non-EU accounts in USD.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden at any point during the funding year (from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027).
• Length of study: You will be there for at least 3 months.
• Level: Open to undergraduates, postgraduates and PhD students, as well as exchange students, independent students and visiting academics.
• Field of study: Open to all disciplines.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply, with the exception of Swedish nationals. You are a visiting student who plans to return to your home country upon completion of your studies or work placement.
• Not settling in Sweden: You do not hold a permanent residence permit and do not intend to live in Sweden long-term.
• No Swedish student finance: You will not receive any grants or loans from the CSN, the Swedish Agency for Student Finance.
• First time: You have not yet received this grant.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the university’s application system between 11 January and 12 February 2027. Late applications will not be considered. You do not need to provide a CV, a cover letter or a statement of purpose. If you are not yet registered in the university’s student register (Ladok), you can still apply by emailing the Foundation proof of your enrolment. Selection is based on academic performance, and all applicants will be informed of the outcome by email in April.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a small grant, the amount of which decreases as more applicants are accepted. This means that many applicants share the total amount, rather than just a few receiving large sums. As the grant is open to almost all visiting students at a university, there is a large pool of applicants; however, due to the small amount involved, it attracts less attention than a full scholarship. If you clearly meet the criteria for visiting students and apply within the short application window, your chances are quite good.
