About this scholarship
What the grant gives you
You will receive a share of an annual research grant amounting to 500,000 SEK in total (about 44,000 EUR). The foundation may divide this amount amongst several prize winners. The money will be used to fund a study or research project on the subject of building and housing, with a focus on construction methods and property management. The grant is provided by a foundation established in 1998. It is administered by ArkDes, Sweden’s national centre for architecture and design, in collaboration with the Stockholm Building Association. For 2025, the foundation sought projects addressing three themes: the circular economy approach to the reuse and maintenance of existing buildings, the adaptation of properties for long-term use, and the efficient use of energy and resources in building management.
Who can apply
- Who you are: You are a researcher at a university or college, or a practitioner such as an architect, building engineer or property manager.
- Your project: Your study combines academic depth with real practical use, and fits the field of building, housing and property management.
- Teams allowed: You can apply either individually or as a group working on a joint project.
- Where you study: Your research can be carried out in Sweden or abroad.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- Age: No age limit.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the ArkDes website. The application period begins in mid-August and ends on 15 September. The Foundation’s Board will review each application and announce the winners around mid-October.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a targeted research grant, not a general scholarship for students. The pool of applicants is limited to those working on construction and property-related topics that align with this year’s priority areas. In 2025, the committee selected 2 projects from 58 applications, so competition is fierce. If your work is closely aligned with the priority topics and establishes a clear link between academic research and practical application, you stand a good chance.
