Fruntimmerssamfundet i Visby scholarship

You receive a cash grant whose amount changes each year, awarded once per cycle. There is no fixed sum per person. The foundation splits its yearly pot among all successful applicants, so your individual amount depends on the total and the number of women who apply. To give a sense of scale: in one recent year 79 women shared about 623,000 SEK (roughly 55,000 EUR), and in another 100 women shared about 502,000 SEK (roughly 44,000 EUR). The money comes from Fruntimmerssamfundets Stiftelse, a foundation run by a women's society in Visby on Gotland, Sweden. You can receive the scholarship up to 4 times.

Who can apply

• Gender: You are a woman.
• Link to Gotland: You were born on Gotland, or you live on Gotland with your main residence registered there.
• Level of study: You study at post-secondary level, meaning after upper-secondary school. Upper-secondary (gymnasium) studies are not funded.
• Where you study: You study at university, for example Uppsala University / Campus Gotland.
• Field of study: Any post-secondary field can be funded. Textiles and home economics get priority.
• Age: You are 55 years old at most.

How to apply

Download the application form from the foundation's website and send your written application to its secretary by post or email. For the 2026 cycle the deadline is 24 April 2026. Each new call is published on the website in February. The decision is announced after the deadline, with no interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut narrowly: you must be a woman with a clear tie to Gotland, studying at post-secondary level, so the eligible group is small. In recent years the foundation considered every applicant and shared its funds among all of them. That means well-matched candidates have strong prospects, even if the exact amount varies. If you meet the conditions, applying is worthwhile.
