About this award / prize
Benefit
You will receive a one-off cash prize of about 613 EUR (£500). The Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham (UK) awards this prize to the year’s top chemistry graduate who plans to pursue a career in organic chemistry research. This is a graduation award and not a scholarship for which one must apply. The Faculty selects the winner itself at the end of the academic year. The prize is named after Alfred Bader, the chemist and art collector who co-founded the chemicals supplier Sigma-Aldrich.
Eligibility
- Where you study: You completed your degree in chemistry at the University of Birmingham.
- Field: You have a degree in chemistry and would like to carry out research in the field of organic chemistry.
- Grades: You’re the top chemistry graduate in your year. There can only be one winner.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How realistic are your chances?
You do not need to apply. The Faculty of Chemistry selects the best graduate conducting research in organic chemistry – it is therefore an award for outstanding achievement rather than a competition that you have to enter. Only one person receives this award each year, which makes it very difficult to win. The advantage of this is that you won’t be disadvantaged by missing a deadline. If your final grades are amongst the very best in your year group in chemistry and you go on to pursue research in organic chemistry, you will be eligible for the award.
