About this award / prize

What the Bithell Bequest supports

This is a fund set up by the University of London to support activities in the field of German studies. It is not a monthly scholarship for which one can apply. The funds are used to finance an annual public lecture on a topic relating to German studies, two academic prizes, the publication of doctoral theses in a book series, and new books on German studies for the department’s library. The fund is based at the Institute for Languages, Cultures and Societies (ILCS) and is administered by a committee based there.

Who it is for

  • Field: You are studying German Studies, i.e. the language, literature and culture of German-speaking countries.
  • Where: The fund is managed by the University of London in the United Kingdom.
  • Nationality: Anyone can apply, regardless of nationality.
  • Who benefits: The programme is aimed at researchers and PhD students in German Studies, for example through the two prizes and the dissertation series. It is not intended for students who wish to cover their living costs.

How to apply

The funds are administered by the Endowment Office at the University of London. No amounts, deadlines or application criteria for the awards have been published. Please contact the office directly to find out which awards are currently open for applications.
