About this award / prize
What you get
You will receive an achievement award from the Department of Music at the University of Bristol. This is awarded to final-year music students who have achieved the highest marks in their subject. The awards cover various areas: musicology (your comprehensive written assignment or dissertation), performance, composition and studio work. Occasionally, a prize is also awarded for the best accompaniment to another student’s graded recital. This is a one-off award for your achievements at the end of your studies, not a monthly scholarship. The amount of the prize is not disclosed.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You’re studying at the University of Bristol.
- Course: You are undertaking a single-subject or combined degree in Music.
- Year: You are in the final year of your Bachelor’s degree.
- Results: You achieve the highest marks in your subject area: musicology, performance, composition, sound recording or accompaniment.
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they are enrolled at the University of Bristol.
How to apply
There is no separate application process. The faculty selects the prize winners on the basis of their final examination results and academic performance records from the final year of study. The accompanying prize is awarded only in certain years.
How realistic are your chances?
You cannot apply for this, so it all comes down to your grades. Only the top student in each category will win. If you’re among the top music students in their final year at Bristol in the fields of performance, composition, studio work or dissertation, you’re automatically in the running. You don’t need to submit anything, but the bar is set at the highest mark in the year group.
