Benefit

You win a one-off prize of about 590 EUR (£500) for the best performance in the New Testament in its original Greek. The prize comes from the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of Oxford. It is judged purely on your exam results, which cover translation, textual criticism, interpretation, inspiration and authority. There is no separate application. The top candidate in the relevant exams receives it automatically.

Eligibility

• Degree level: You are sitting the MSt (Master of Studies) or MPhil exams in Theology, with a focus on the New Testament.
• University: You study at the University of Oxford, Faculty of Theology and Religion.
• Field: New Testament in the original Greek.
• Time enrolled: You have been a member of the University for no more than 24 terms.
• Not a past winner: You have not received this prize before.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.

How realistic are your chances?

There is nothing to apply for. The prize goes to the best exam performance among Oxford's MSt and MPhil theology students each year. The pool is tiny, limited to master's-level students who study the Greek New Testament at one faculty. If that is your subject and you finish at the top of your year, you win it. The standard is high, and some years the prize is shared between two candidates.
