About this grant / loan
What the Tuition Fee Loan gives you
You will receive a government-funded loan of up to about EUR 11,000 per year (£9,535 for 2025/26) to cover your full tuition fees at Bath Spa University. The loan covers the duration of your Bachelor’s degree, up to a maximum of 36 months. The amount of the loan does not depend on your income or that of your family. The money is paid directly to the university, not to you. You can choose whether to borrow less than the full tuition fees or nothing at all. If your degree programme includes a work placement or a year abroad, your tuition fees for that year will be lower (between approximately 1,700 and 2,300 euros), and you can take out a correspondingly smaller loan. This is a repayable loan, not a grant. Repayment only begins once you have completed your studies and your income exceeds a set threshold.
Who can apply
- Level: You are a Bachelor’s student (BA or BSc) at Bath Spa University.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Where you study: You’re studying in the UK at Bath Spa University.
- Who qualifies: You are eligible for UK student finance. This applies to students from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, as well as to eligible students from the EU.
- No income test: Your income and that of your parents have no bearing on this loan.
- Previous study: Your eligibility may be restricted if you have previously studied at a university, even if you funded your studies yourself.
How to apply
You should submit your application to the national student finance body responsible for your place of residence before the start of your studies: Student Finance England, Wales, Northern Ireland or Scotland, or via the EU student finance application route. Please submit your application at least four months before the start of your academic year. The recommended deadlines are between 31 May and 30 June. You can still change the loan amount later in the year.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not a competitive scholarship. There is neither a selection process nor a means test; so, if you are an eligible undergraduate student, the loan is virtually guaranteed. The only factor that may restrict eligibility is having previously studied at a higher education institution. Bear in mind that this is a loan which you will have to repay as soon as you are earning enough – it is not a gift of money. You should therefore weigh it up against grants and scholarships, which you may not have to repay.
