Grocers' Company Queen's Golden Jubilee Scholarship

You will receive a scholarship of about 2,610 EUR per year (£2,250) for each academic year, for a maximum of 4 years. This amounts to a total of approximately 10,400 EUR (£9,000) over the entire duration of the Bachelor’s degree programme. The scholarship is awarded to only one student per year. The funding comes from the ‘Grocers’ Company’, one of London’s historic guilds, and is administered by Imperial College London. As a scholarship holder, you will meet informally with the donors from time to time and submit a brief progress report each year.

Who can apply

• Study level: You are starting a Bachelor’s degree at Imperial College London. This is for first-year students only; if you are already enrolled on this degree programme, you cannot apply.
• Field: You are studying at the Faculty of Engineering, for example in aerospace engineering, bioengineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, design, earth sciences, electrical engineering, materials science or mechanical engineering.
• Fee status: Your status is ‘Home’, which means that, for the purposes of tuition fees, you are treated as a UK resident student rather than an international student.
• Financial need: Your household income is less than £70,000 per year, as confirmed by Student Finance England (SFE) or an equivalent body.
• Grades: The departments rank applicants according to their academic performance, based on their predicted A-level results and their UCAS application.

How to apply

There is no separate form. You must apply for student finance so that the SFE can assess your household income and confirm this with Imperial College. You must also submit a UCAS application for an engineering degree programme and have received an offer of admission. Both must be completed by 30 May 2025. The SFE’s assessment can take up to 8 weeks, so please apply for funding well in advance. Each department draws up a ranking of applicants, and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering selects the successful candidate. There is no interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very limited in scope: only one place is awarded each year, exclusively to new engineering students with ‘Home’ status at Imperial College whose household income is below £70,000.. Whilst this keeps the pool of eligible applicants small, given that Imperial College’s admission criteria are very strict, good predicted A-level grades play an important role. If you clearly meet the criteria, apply for the funding as early as possible so that the SFE can confirm your income before the deadline.
