IMechE Undergraduate Scholarship

You will receive 2,000 GBP per year (about 2,300 EUR) for up to four years, totalling up to 8,000 GBP (approximately 9,200 EUR) over the course of your degree. The money is paid out annually. It is renewed each year, provided you make satisfactory academic progress. The funding is provided by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the UK’s professional body for mechanical engineers. Years spent on industrial placements are not eligible for funding.

Who can apply

• Study phase: You will be starting a Bachelor’s degree programme this coming autumn and are submitting your application before the start of your studies.
• Field of study: Your degree must be recognised by the IMechE. This applies to mechanical engineering and related disciplines, such as aerospace engineering.
• Residence: You live in the UK.
• University: Any UK higher education institution offering a degree programme accredited by the IMechE. You are not restricted to a particular institution.

How to apply

Please send the completed application form to the IMechE by 30 June 2026. Your answers to question 9 on the form are of crucial importance to the selection panel. You should also provide a referee with a reference form, which they must send directly to the IMechE by 15 July 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

The award is restricted to individuals resident in the United Kingdom who are commencing an engineering degree programme accredited by the IMechE, which ensures that the pool of applicants remains manageable and does not become too large. If you clearly meet these criteria, your written response to question 9 will be decisive; therefore, a well-thought-out, specific answer is more important than one that is stylistically polished. If you apply well in advance of the June deadline, you will have sufficient time to obtain a meaningful reference.
