Palgrave Brown UK Scholarship

During your Bachelor’s degree at the University of Oxford, you will receive an annual grant of at least about 7,000 EUR (£6,000) towards your living costs. The grant covers the entire duration of your studies, i.e. either 3 or 4 years. If you are undertaking a six-year medical degree, you will only receive the grant for the first four years. Only one scholarship is awarded per round of applications. The funding comes from the Palgrave Brown Bursary Fund and is provided via the University of Oxford.

Who can apply

• Where you live or went to school: You usually live in the English counties of Norfolk or Suffolk, or went to school there.
• University: You are starting a bachelor’s degree at the University of Oxford. It does not matter which college you study at.
• Study phase: You are a new student in your first year of study.
• Field of study: Open to all degree programmes offered at Oxford.
• Financial need: The prize is awarded primarily to students who need financial support. Your grades also play a part.

How to apply

Applications are made via the University of Oxford. Details will be published on the scholarship’s official website (for the start of studies in 2027, in January 2027). The application deadline is 4 February. Selection takes place in April, and you will be notified of the result by the end of May. If you have a deferred place or are undertaking the University of Oxford’s ‘Astrophoria Foundation Year’, you should apply in January of the year in which your degree programme actually begins.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is awarded per round, and as competition is fierce, it is a highly contested scholarship. The strict regional selection criteria play a part in this: You must be from Norfolk or Suffolk, be starting your degree at Oxford, and demonstrate a genuine financial need – which narrows down the pool of applicants. If you clearly meet all three criteria and can demonstrate your financial need, you have a real chance. However, as there is only one place available, there is no guarantee.
